Lounge-2
Lounge is the leading platform for universities and organizations committed to supporting the student experience
Summary
Lounge had a performance issue that affected the release of their new event booking features globally.
Knowing that we specialise in networks, net-code, performance, and connectivity, they engaged me to identify and resolve the issue before it impacted several of their key launch events scheduled to utilise the new feature.
Prior to engagement, we spent time with the team to establish what had been tried and where they thought the issues might lie, thereby reducing the scope of what needed to be evaluated.
We then discussed the potential sources, negotiated the contract, and began work within 5 hours on a Friday. Working through the weekend, we analysed the root cause, deployed a fix, and delivered a recommendation for a process change that would have prevented the issue, all before the following Monday.
How it was solved
Due to the sensitive nature of the information, I will not cover the details of the root cause here.
However, we can say that it required knowledge of Google Cloud Platform, Postgres/CloudSQL, Memcached, and Docker Containers.
The root cause was identified using Postman by observing the requests and timeouts as they traversed a staging instance of the platform, utilising network taps and traceroutes to confirm arrival times and latencies.
